Barbadine is a tender, evergreen climbing plant that produces a large, oblong greenish-white fruit that contains numerous seeds embedded in an edible pulp. Plants can bear fruits after 1 – 2 years. The fruit is 20 – 30 centimetres long and weighs about 4 kilograms. The fresh fruit has a mild taste and can be consumed raw, added to salads or used to make ice-cream, juices and punches. This plant can be planted year-round in moist soils and partial sunlight.
