Black Sapote or ‘chocolate pudding fruit’ is tomato-like with a skin that turns from olive green to a deep yellow-green when ripe. It is tomato-like in shape Black Sapote trees can be planted throughout the year, they thrive in full sunlight and can grow up to 25 metres in height with mature trees bearing in about 3 – 4 years. The pulp is glossy, dark-brown, almost black, jelly-like, soft, and very sweet. These plants are sensitive to drought, requiring irrigation in dry areas, and are quite tolerant of flooding.
