The grains from this field variety (CIMMYT 7728) can be replanted after harvest. This plant generally bears two cobs per plant in 8-16 weeks and like most varieties requires a nitrogen-based fertilizer after planting. Alternatively, corn can be planted the traditional way with pigeon peas (a nitrogen fixator). Plants grow best in full sunlight and well-drained soils.
