Pachystachys, also known as the golden shrimp plant, is an exotic addition to any garden. It can be used as an accent plant on the patio in a mixed container or as an individual potted plant arranged with other containers. It can grow up to 2 metres tall in the outdoors and 30 – 45 centimetres tall indoors. It flowers best outdoors in full sunlight to partial shade and blooms throughout the year. It is best grown in a rich, well-drained soil.This plant gets its name from its unusual, spectacular golden yellow flower bracts that overlap in such a way that they resemble a shrimp. The flowers are actually white tubular blooms that appear at the top of the flower spike. An exquisite plant for containers indoors or outdoors.
