Peewah fruits are small like a plum and looks like a baby coconut. The peewah tree grows to a height of 20 metres and requires full sunlight with well-drained soils. Plants are fairly drought tolerant and can be planted throughout the year. The fruit can be harvested in 2 – 3 years after planting and are produced in clusters which are bright red, yellow or orange in colour when ripe. Each fruit contains a single black seed which hold a nut at the core and can be eaten. The flesh of the fruit is firm and fibrous with a dry texture. It can be eaten as a snack when boiled.
