This is the most outstanding among the Petrea species. Petrea is a shrub or small tree which grows to 4 metres tall. This flowering tree prefers full sun but also can tolerate shade, although it will not flower profusely. It flourishes in fertile, well drained soils and can tolerate drought. It bears long, hanging clusters of striking violet-blue flowers which attract numerous butterflies and enhances the appearance of any garden space.
