The white five-petaled pinwheel flowers of the Tabernaemontana bloom in small clusters on the stem tips. The plant generally grows to a height of 1.5–1.8 metres and the waxy deep green leaves grow up to 6 inches in length. It grows in full sun to shade, but they look best when grown in filtered shade . They thrive best in well-drained soils and is tolerant of most soil types.The flowers have the characteristic ‘pinwheel’ shape. This plant is grown for its attractive flowers and foliage however the root has many medicinal uses. This shrub also produces a milky sap when injured. Though sweetly fragrant, their scent is best enjoyed at night, as most of it evaporates in the heat of the day. Their best display is also at night, especially moonlight nights, due to the waxy petals making the flowers appear luminous.
